The kitchen - {then & now}

{Then above ... Now below}
WOW!

Hanging the kitchen cabinet doors ...

WOW! :) ... I love how the black hinges look.

My Dad - the ultimate do-it-yourself expert! It was fun to spend Saturday morning together hanging the doors in this old kitchen. The old hinges that I took off the doors were too old to reuse - I had thought maybe I could spray paint them black and put them back up/on. It is a bit tricky to hang the doors with new hinges as they do not sit or attach exactly like the old ones. It took just over 2 hours to hang them all. And almost all of them need some tweaking with a saw so they sit right. Thanks so much Dad for all your love and support with this new (old) house of ours... I love you!

Tory and Dad - working on the hinges

Good times ...!

19 doors to go :) ...

The kitchen is looking so beautiful.

Take a trip with me to HOME DEPOT ...

The hunt for hinges started on Friday morning! I stopped first at the Home Depot in West Richland to find the black hinges for the kitchen cabinets. No luck - they were still sold out. Not to lose hope though, the Home Depot in Kennewick (on 395) had 52 packages on hand. I only needed 18. So I loaded the 'road trip' music in the car and headed off for the hinges.
Home Depot guy: "Can I help you find anything?"
Wendy: "Thanks! I have everything I need!" :)

Mission accomplished - 19 packages of hinges. I bought one extra just in case.

Couldn't help wandering about the store checking out the bathroom sinks and such.

Ohhhh ahhhhh ...

And of course .... I had to slow down for a moment or two to check out the lights.

Next stop - the new (old) house.
Music for the drive - The Eagles.
Thanks for joining me on this trip :)!!

The kitchen drawer pulls

The drawer pulls took some time to put back on ... They look really great.
Up next: All the hinges. I ran to The Home Depot to get black ones but they were all sold out.

Tomorrow morning will be a hinge hunt! :)

Kitchen update ...

See that side wall the one on the left next to the cabinets? It was taupe but I painted it cream this morning.... The room now feels balanced. I am so thrilled with how this kitchen is turning out.

In addition to painting the wall in the kitchen, I painted the little landing by the back door and since it looked so new and fresh - I painted down the stairs. I love how paint gives everything new life! :)

At 9:05 PM on a Thursday night ...

I cleaned up my projects in the kitchen and ran upstairs to check out the bathroom - WOW! :)

Bye bye blue tarps ...

The blue tarps have been on the floors for too long! Today I cleaned them off (took them outside and held them up like kites and let the wind blow the dust, dirt, and debris down the road).
The tarp was in the middle of the floor (you can see it trying to creep back in off to the left) ... What to do with all the stuff on the tarp? Simple - place it on the edges of the room.

The dining room - with NO blue tarp. Ahhhhhhhh I see progress. :)

These hardwood floors are going to be so gorgeous once we get them refinished... I'm leaning towards a dark finish.

A touch of black in the kitchen

I like black - it looks good in here. And white dishes... so I had to play around for a moment.
I can hardly wait to move in and get the place feeling like HOME.
Checking things out.

I placed a few tiles out on the floor so I could see how this room will flow ... I love it.
Design notes: I might use black counters and add a shabby chic style old black door ...
Keep checking back for more exciting kitchen details! :)

Art for the kitchen

I love this print ... Maybe there will be a place for it in the kitchen?! :)

Up next: Tile on the floor.

Colors in the kitchen

This kitchen is full of color! We've got cream on the cabinets, and the same cream on the opposite wall, and a clean white on the ceiling and on the trim ... It flows really nice.
We plan on using black here and there to add a little spunk to the palette.

Painting with Denise

Denise working her magic with the kitchen wall.
It's amazing how much you can get done with TWO painters in the house... Thanks Denise for all your help today and of course - the laughs! :)

Removing the old dishwasher ...

Where it used to be.

We had a great date night at the old house :) --- I painted in the kitchen while Tory removed the old dishwasher. We're getting ready for the new appliances to arrive and need to get the floor done!

Painting the kitchen walls ...

The walls - ready for paint.

Color used: Laura Ashley - Taupe 3.
This is the same color that is in the dining room. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the walls tomorrow... I'll keep my fingers crossed.
